Dachser acquires Frigoscandia
Mutares and Dachser have signed an agreement to sell all shares in Frigoscandia AB and its subsidiaries. Frigoscandia will thus become part of the global logistics company Dachser. The divestment is subject to approval from competition authorities.
Frigoscandia is the market leader in temperature-controlled food logistics in the Nordic region and operates a strong nationwide network in Sweden as well as an international network with subsidiaries in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and the Netherlands. The company is a full-service provider of warehousing and transport services to customers in the food industry, including wholesale and retail businesses.
Dachser, a family-owned company headquartered in Kempten, Germany, provides transport logistics, warehousing, and customized services in two business fields: Dachser Air & Sea Logistics and Dachser Road Logistics. Since the 1980s, Dachser has established a dedicated temperature-controlled food logistics network in Germany which was later expanded to further European countries. An important step was the foundation of the European Food Network in 2013, where Dachser and its partners cover 34 countries. Through the acquisition, Dachser now improves its access to the Nordic markets through Frigoscandia’s high market presence and strong transport and warehouse infrastructure.
“Acquiring Frigoscandia is an important step to accelerate our growth – especially in the Nordics,” says Alexander Tonn, Dachser COO Road Logistics and Managing Director Dachser Food Logistics effective January 1, 2024. He adds, “with this acquisition, our customers in the Nordics and in Europe will benefit even more from our high-quality distribution capacity. Our history has proven that both partners share a clear commitment to reliability and quality. Frigoscandia’s employees are our guardian of continuity and expertise in Food Logistics for the Nordic markets. We’re delighted to welcome them into the Dachser family.”
Frigoscandia is very positive about the change of ownership, which is the natural next step in the company’s long-term strategy. The management team, together with Mutares, has worked purposefully to give Frigoscandia a long-term and development-oriented owner in the industry to support the next phase of the company’s business plan.
“Becoming part of the Dachser Group strengthens Frigoscandia’s capabilities to continue our expansion of sustainable food logistics solutions, both in the Nordic region and in the rest of Europe. With joint forces we can develop and broaden the service offering to our customers and further strengthen their competitiveness,” says Peter Haveneth, CEO of Frigoscandia AB.
Since 2019, Frigoscandia has been a strategic partner to Dachser in the EFN network (European Food Network) operating the temperature-controlled groupage traffic in the Nordic region. The acquisition provides opportunities to refine the already established collaboration, where Frigoscandia’s strong network in the Nordic region will be more closely linked to a global platform.
“It’s a perfect business and geographical match. Combining our two platforms will add value to our customers both through an extended range of services within all temperature zones, and broadened geographical coverage. A complete service offering to the logistics market will define our cooperation,” says Peter Haveneth, CEO of Frigoscandia AB.
