Long-term environmental measures

We work in a long-term manner to reduce our impact on the environment and the climate through measures in several different areas:

  • Increased capacity utilisation and filling levels in warehouses and load carriers
  • Investment in environmental technology and intermodal transport solutions
  • Development of the use, operation and maintenance of vehicles and load carriers
  • Gradual and continual transition to vehicles that run on fuels which provide lower emissions of greenhouse gases
  • Dialogue aimed at influencing decision-makers in relation to strategic climate solutions and conservation of resources
  • Collaboration with customers, freight forwarders and fuel/energy suppliers aimed at facilitating more climate-efficient solutions

Frigoscandia Åkeri increased its percentage of fossil-free fuel (RME) by 24% during 2020

This entails a reduction in CO2 emissions of around 1.350 tonnes, which equates to the total emissions from around 12 of the freight forwarder’s vehicles (25.25 m) running on conventional diesel during a year.

Frigoscandia Åkeri is continuing the transition from conventional diesel during the spring of 2021, with the replacement of a further 20 per cent of the vehicle fleet with vehicles converted to be able to run on the fossil-free fuel RME (produced from rapeseed oil and bioethanol), and a couple of units that run on CNG/CBG (compressed natural gas/biogas).

Green werehousing

At Frigoscandia we are well aware that the most important kilowatt-hour for the environment is the saved kilowatt-hour. This is why we always primarily work with energy-saving measures.

Refrigeration production is an energy-intensive process.

We focus on energy conservation though:

  • Continual optimisation of the operation of our refrigeration plant
  • Monitoring and measurement of our energy consumption
  • Well insulated properties
  • Quick-closing doors and sealed loading docks
  • Local collaboration with adjacent property owners in order to utilise the heat that arises when we produce refrigeration

Ammonia is the best refrigerant

Ammonia is completely climate-neutral and does not damage the ozone layer. Consequently, we use ammonia as the refrigerant in our plant.

Electricity from renewable sources

We offer our customers Green Warehousing. We know how much electricity is consumed for each pallet in our warehouses. Green Warehousing means that we purchase the amount of green electricity that we have consumed on behalf of each customer.
